Between Skardu and Deosai National Park in Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan, there is a natural pass known as Burji La (or Burji Pass) in the Karakoram mountains. It has a 5000-meter elevation. It is renowned for its stunning panoramic views of numerous mountain peaks, including K2, Nanga Parbat, Masherbrum, Golden peak, Chogolisa, Laila Peak, Gasherbrum I, Gasherbrum II, and Gasherbrum IV, as well as a portion of Broad Peak mountain.

Best Trekking
A snow-covered north-south route between the Skardu Valley and Deosai Plains, Burji la was once the historic British route from Srinagar to Skardu. The Gasherbrums and Masherbrum can be faintly seen from the pass, which is barely 16 kilometres south of Skardu but approximately 2600 metres above it. This hike can be combined with the Deosai Traverse because the descriptions beneath are from north to south. On the other hand, going the other way makes it simpler to pass.

In the past, when there was no road and no way to reach the settlements, Burja La was a very active route that connected Skardu to the Astor and Gultari valleys, according to the elders of the region. This method of approaching Skardu was employed by Astori and Gultari people. The best way to reach the Burj La is from the Deosai plateau because the two-day ascent on the trail from Skardu is quite difficult. We advise to take the Sadpara route to ascend to the Deosai and the Burji La route to descend.
Things to do in Burji la Skardu
To find porters who are familiar with the journey, you must hire a jeep up until the Deosai entry point for Burji La.
As soon as possible, depart Skardu. You can request the driver to pick you up the morning of the third day after the jeep departs from the Deosai Entry point, where it will drop you off.
After around 6-7 hours of walking, beginning at the Deosai access point and crossing via the Ali Malik Pass, you arrive at the first camping location beside the Burji Naala. There are two options for camping: either stay here, which is advised or go for an additional 4-5 hours to Burji La, where you can set up camp near the lake.
If you set up camp at the halfway point, you’ll leave the campgrounds behind and begin your ascent of Burj La the next morning. In 6-7 hours, you’ll arrive in Burj La Top. If you want to go back to your tent before sundown, enjoy the view from the summit and leave early.
On the third day, you set out early to return to the Deosai entry gate, where your jeep driver would be waiting for you.
Moving farther, you can take a jeep in the direction of Astore, passing via Bara Pani, Sheosar Lake, and Chilam Valley.
Best time to visit Burji la Skardu
The morning or evening time is the best time to visit. There is snow falling in winter so the best time to visit is in summer.
